The cold winter '10 update

It seems as thought it has been absolutely forever since the last post. Therefore, I will do my best to sum it up short. We've signed up for our very first marathon! We are planning to run the Washington DC Sun Trust Marathon on March 20th. We have been training for it since November, only 3 months! Well, it's been a rough three months. Basically I had to follow the less is more approach since I work 3-4 days a week, and I don't even think about training after a 12.5 hour shift, I get home looking like a zombie. But besides that, this would leave me with approximately 3-4 days of training. Worked out pretty well I must say. Instead of doing interval training and tempo runs I primarily focused on being able to do the distance, so each week I increased my daily miles until I was covering on average 35 miles a week on 3 days of running. Of course, knowing me, I got pretty bored with a 3 month plan, so before I could even finish the marathon I decided that I am also someday going to finish an Ironman, so I threw in some pool swimming and spin biking. How fun! No really.

The food on the other hand has been a struggle. With the normal day of working out about 3 hours a day, I'd try to maintain weight etc. But on the days that I work it would/is hard to be very disciplined. I crave foods that are not part of my diet, and on occasion I'd slip and have a bit too much of sweet cereal. And I'm putting this out there only because even though it may seem that once people have a goal it's "easy" for them to to stay on track, but I think that even the best of athletes out there wish they could just sit and eat fried chicken and cheesecake every day. Well, maybe not very day, I think I would come down sick with that kind of diet, but you get the point. No?

Ok, so what else has been going on? Well, the "guy" has managed to run a whole marathon for a long run day, like a month ago already, so I guess DC isn't going to be his truly 1st marathon. He's also learning to swim, yeah that's right, even the superman needs to put in time to learn the proper technique before he can attempt an iroman. So that's our goal for now, to do it in 2011? Or 2012? I need to ask him. :)

Whaaat else? Oh, I leaned how to make really good quinoa with mushrooms and how to roast a whole chicken! And I also know how to make my own bread, dumplings, and mack n' cheese from scratch. So who want's another cookbook, anyone anyone? lol

Yeah, so that's that. Until next time.
