Today was a pretty hot day here in New York. Started out with a Santa Cruz chill in the low 60s and went all the way up to mid 90s before 1pm. The morning workout was nice, we did an easy 12.5 miler on Riverside Drive at 7 am, soaking up the beautiful city and morning breeze. Afterwards, the usual routine: protein/gatorade/OJ shake, stretch, legs up against the wall, self massage on the legs, and of course, at least a 40 minute nap. I cannot function without my nap, I have a nickname for my nap-less days: Crank-Set. But, today I completed the routine as per the homemade training manual exactly, so I had plenty of energy to get ready for a short, flat hike in the Harriman woods. Once we got there, it was pretty hot, I was sweating, a bit miserable. I cannot function in the heat well unless I acclimate. But since I train early early morning, hang out in the house during midday, and otherwise work from 7 to 8, I think this summer has been quite nice for me. :)
So to tie all the random thoughts, the morning was nice and cool, wished I could run forever. The afternoon was hot and I wished for fall, so that I can wear my new Columbia and L.L. Bean hiking stuff.
Then at home we made mashed potatoes with all the potatoes we've accumulated in the fridge, thinking we'd eat them, and some veggie-Costco spicy sausage stew concoction for lunch at work tomorrow. I love homemade food, especially when it reminds me of my farm in Latvia. I love it so because I grew up with a mom who thought fast food was the way to go in America.
On a happier note, today was quite splendid. Oh, and yesterday I was learning how to play tennis! It was really hard, and I kept missing the ball. I tell you, I can move in one direction well, but not side to side. And in running, swimming, biking you don't have to keep your eyes on the ball. You can day dream if you want to, no problem!
