So, after all the feats of endurance, this one "knocked me off the bike" for sure. This F.O.E. is called being pregnant. And since it's my first, it's the hardest thing I've ever done by far. Except maybe the last mile of the D.C. marathon, haha, but I'm quite sure the actual birth will surpass that moment by light years. And then I'll be sprinting the last miles of marathons and ultras like it's nothing. Right, the body doesn't quite get used to pain. In my opinion. But maybe you have a different experience.
So far, I'm 17 weeks along and counting. gained 10-12 lbs, depending on how much water I'm retaining, since I've been eating plenty of salty foods. And tomatoes have been my biggest craving. What's up with that, am I gonna have a cabbage patch baby?
The first three months I was incredibly fatigued and nauseous. I stopped working out completely, slept and ate takeout like every day. Gained the 10 lbs then, and now for the duration of the last 5 weeks I've been eating as mindfully as I can, have been walking for about an hour every day, drinking plenty of water, and started swimming. I'm still the same weight, so hopefully the gained fat is reintegrating itself a bit after that ridiculousness.
Don't get me wrong, I do want the baby to be healthy and to eat enough to provide all the necesary nutrients, but I let myself down, and gained too much for the health of the baby in the first 3 months, so in my mind I'm only doing the right thing.
Went out shopping for some pregnancy clothes yesterday, which was a lot of fun, got some funky things, like tights with an expandable belly band. And some cute shirts, Sam came with me, and he had fun picking out the clothes as much as I did, and we both tried on the "7 months belly!" Sam looked like he had a beer belly, and I looked like I was 20 months pregnant with the fake belly atop my current belly. Can you visualize the image, lol.
Ok Ok, I have work tomorrow, so I will go take a nice long nap. And dream of horses, because I love horses and I saw the Secreteriat yesterday. Good movie, like really cool actually. (in the photo I am 27 weeks)
