San Francisco did not work out for us. So, at 36 weeks pregnant we packed up the boxes, rented a storage place, and moved in with Sam's parents in Soquel, just like that.
We've been here 3 weeks now, and loving every minute of it. I started hiking again and was able to build up my endurance to and hour and a half in Niesene Marks Park, a total of a 4 mile loop. We've also been doing a second walk either on East or West cliff, getting in the last few days of relaxation and tranquility before the baby arrives. (And spotting Johnny, Sam's brother do the usual car loop on West Cliff or by Capitola Library).
At home Sam has been working, I've been making sock monkeys and embroidering random stuff. The food has been good to us too. I still do my fresh fruit smoothies in the mornings, sometimes with a small side of white rice, or the Korean Dtuk. For lunch usually either the last night's leftovers, some salad at Whole Foods, or the latest favorite Carpos. They have great grilled cheese and tri-tip sandwiches with a yummy salad bar that includes fresh fruit. I am delighted to say that I have gained somewhere between 30-35 lbs in this pregnancy, and that works for me just fine.
As for the birth, we are still planning to deliver at Sutter Maternity Center and we will most likely stick with the OB service (or switch to midwifery service last minute). As for the birth plan itself, we pretty much want to go with a Natural Birth. We read the Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and have been converted, so I think we will do our very best to do this the primate way. I had my doubts, but once you learn the stats, it's hard to look back. I still don't know how it will feel, but I just know it's something I have to do for me, for Kai, and for Sam. Unfortunately in today's western culture the art of birthing has been somewhat lost, no one tells you that a woman is fully capable of doing it without the multiple medical interventions currently available, but rather all we hear are the horror stories. I will try to change the history of it for myself. I will do my best and pass on the knowledge.
Apart from that I'm also looking forward to starting the diet after the birth and getting back into some hard core exercise. I am planning on joining the Santa Cruz Masters swimming, doing the runs with Sam in the park and definitely hitting the hills on our bikes. Just thinking of it makes me all giddy inside. It's been too long, I need to feel physically strong again.
I am also planning on doing the Big Sur marathon with Sam in the spring time and then possibly the Vineman Half Ironman in Sonoma County next July. That will be really the ultimate goal. Perhaps also find some local swim/bike/run competitions. In fact, if I can't find anything then I will make one up myself and have Sam time me and escort me on the bike! Whoo hoo!
As for other news, unfortunately my brother will not be visiting me this August, he might be flying out to see grandma instead. I think that's always good, he needs to spend as much time with them as possible.
So that's that for now.
